Soft Enamel lapel pins are an affordable alternative to a variety of applications, while at the same time displaying quality and excellent lapel pin craftsmanship. These pins are extremely popular due to the brilliant color enamel fills and raised-metal detailing.
Manufacturing soft enamel lapel pins is not very different from manufacturing cloisonné lapel pins. They mainly differ in the materials used in color enameling the pin face. Cloisonné uses colored powdered glass, the soft enamel pins are laden with ordinary paint enamel.
A die is cut to the image of your design. Your image is stamped on the sheet of iron or copper. Cutting molds are made separately, and the pins are cut out to the outline of the design shape.
Plating is done next. These lapel pins can be plated in gold, silver, bronze, and a variety of other finishes. The indentations are then filled with the enamel colors. Colors are inserted by hand, one at a time, using different sized syringes.
The pins are then kiln-fired at a low temperature. An optional epoxy protective coating (dome) can then be applied epoxy for a more polished, and durable finish and to protect the color enamels from fading or cracking over time. |
